Refuge International is excited to announce the appointment of Tiffany Egbe, MD and Jose Sanchez, JD, MPA to the Refuge International Board of Directors.
Tiffany Egbe, MD is employed as a Hospitalist in Internal Medicine at CHRISTUS-Good Shepherd in Longview and Marshall. She is also the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler. Dr. Egbe received her B.S. in 1998 from Wake Forest University and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in 2002. She completed her Internal Medicine and Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2006.
Dr. Tiffany Egbe has received many awards, including the Quality Achievement Award, Distinguished Teaching Award, Exemplary Ranking in Patient Satisfaction for 2010, and the James R Givens Award for Outstanding Performance in Endocrinology.
In addition, Dr. Egbe has been published in several professional journals and delivered numerous oral presentations at the state and national levels. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, and the Society of Hospitalist Medicine. She currently serves on the Ethics Committee, the Medicine Advisory Committee, the Recruitment and Retention Committee, the Transfusion Committee, and the Credentialing Committee at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd. Dr. Egbe also serves as a CASA Board Member and enjoys running.
This spring, Dr. Egbe will travel to Guatemala to precept Internal Medicine Residents at the Refuge International Clinic in Chocola.
Jose I. Sanchez was born in Mexico City, Mexico and came to Texas in 1981, as an undocumented immigrant. He was raised in Longview, Texas. Jose attended Spring Hill ISD, TX, from kindergarten till graduation in 1994, where he finished as the class Salutatorian. Jose then attended Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, on an academic scholarship and received his B.A. in 1998. While at Texas A&M, he was the President of the Latino students.
After graduating from college, Jose attended Texas Tech Law School in Lubbock, Texas. He received his J.D. in 2001. In May, 2014, he graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government with a Masters in Public Administration. In 2016, Jose joined the law firm PayneMitchell Law Group of Dallas, Texas, as counsel. PayneMitchell is nationally known for its specialty in personal injury and product defects.
In 2005, Jose decided to come back to his hometown and opened his own law firm named Jose Sanchez Law Firm, PC in Longview, Texas. He handles a great number of personal injury and immigration cases. Jose has also handled a variety of litigation matters, contract disputes, insurance claims, and employment issues, as well as criminal defense. During his career, Jose has carried several jury trials to verdict and has won millions for his clients. He has also sued the government for violations of immigrants’ rights.
Jose was selected to be one of twenty Texas attorneys to participate in the prestigious 2010-2011 Texas State Bar Leadership Program, and won the best leader award from the group.
Jose is the leader of the growing Latino community in East Texas. He organized and led the immigration march in 2006 in Tyler, Texas, which over 4,000 people attended, and which landed him in the New York Times. He is constantly on television and traveling throughout the USA, fighting and marching for immigration reform and meeting with important national leaders. He is sought out by local media, businesses, and groups to speak at various events and programs.
Jose has maintained a weekly radio show in Spanish in East Texas for the last 10 years, in which he discusses current news and politics that affect the Latino community and legal advice. Jose enjoys running, working out, sports, traveling, and computers.
