In January of 2025, while serving together in Guatemala, an idea was first discussed over dinner that would soon become one of the most impactful improvements to Refuge International’s medical missions. Dr. Gregory Biron and members of his team began talking about the challenges of providing dental care in our existing setting. At the time, dental patients were treated in zero-gravity lawn chairs—an improvised solution that allowed care to be provided but made procedures slower and more physically demanding for both patients and providers.

During that conversation, Dr. Biron proposed a bold solution: building a fully equipped mobile dental trailer that could be transported to Guatemala and serve as a dedicated dental clinic.

After returning home, Dr. Biron and his team immediately began turning the idea into reality. Over the following months, they worked tirelessly to design, build, and outfit the trailer with professional dental equipment that would dramatically improve the efficiency, safety, and comfort of dental care provided during Refuge missions.

By November of 2025, the completed trailer was ready to begin its journey. It was shipped by sea to Guatemala and prepared for deployment.

In January of 2026, the dental trailer arrived for its first mission—just one year after the idea had first been shared over dinner. The impact was immediate and remarkable. Patients who had once received care in lawn chairs were now able to be treated in proper dental chairs within a fully functional clinic environment. The new setup dramatically improved workflow, increased the number of patients that could be treated, and allowed the dental team to work more comfortably and effectively.

What began as a conversation around a dinner table quickly became a transformative addition to Refuge International’s medical outreach. Thanks to the vision, leadership, and generosity of Dr. Gregory Biron and his team, thousands of patients will receive higher-quality dental care for years to come.
